They appear in early records about the same time as their neighbors in that part of the country, the Flemings of Bigger and Cumbernauld, to whom they were perhaps of kin.

FINEMUND: This surname is probably now extinct in Scotland. The Finemunds were lords of Cambusnethan in Lanarkshire in the thirteenth century, and were probably of Flemish origin. They appear in early records about the same time as their neighbors in that part of the country, the Flemings of Bigger and Cumbernauld, to whom they were perhaps of kin. They were extensive landowners and made liberal donations to the church. William de Finemund, lord of the manor of Cambusnethan, granted the church of Cambusnethan to the monks of Kelso before 1153 (Kelso, p. 14), Thomas Finmond appears in Roxburgh in 1266 (ER., I, p. 29), and Warin Finemund witnessed a land grant in 1304 (Bain, II, p. 423).
