From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history
From the lands of Feithie (now Fithie) in the parish of Farnell, Angus. Duncan de Fethyn witnessed perambulation of the lands of Conan and Tulloch 1254 (RAA., I, p. 325). Henry of Fyihie was one of the commissioners appointed by Robert I to inquire and report what rights and privileges the town of Arnbroath had from his predecessors (Jervise, I, p. 340), and as Henry de Fethy he witnessed a charter by Walter Shakloc of the third part of the lands of Inieney c. 1328 (RAA., I, p. 339). William de Fethy had a safe conduct c. 1365. Henry de Fethe or de Fethy, who appears as witness and juror at Brechin, 1449—50 (REB., II, p. 79,201) is probably Henry Fethy de Ballisak who appears in 1464 (RAA., II, p. 142), and in 1483 (Southesk, p. 721). George Fethy witnessed a sasine in favor of Adam Crechtoun of Ructhven (Ruthven), 1501 (Bamff, p. 39). Walter Fethy appears in Duffus, 1524 (REM., p. 401), and David Fethy or Fithy was amerciated for non-appearance, 1527 (Trials, I, p. 137). Walter Fethe and John Fethe were procurators in St. Andrews, 1546 and William Fethe was procurator for Elizabeth Dischington, lady of Kinkel, 1547 (Gaw, 9, 54). A family of this name settled in Dundee, 1517, and long continued burgesses there, and Henry Feithe or Fithie was admitted burgess through the privilege of his father, 1632 (Wedd., p. 77). John Fithie was sergeant of ward of Dundee, 1643 (Beats, p. 255), William Feithe was 'reider at the Kirk of Glames,' 1653 (Inquis., 3740), and Magister James Feithie was minister in Peebles, 1691 (ibid., 7185). Henry Futhie or Fithie was member of Scots parliament for Arnbroath, 1667 (Hanna, II, p. 494).
