An old surname in Fife, and a not uncommon one among the fisherfolk of Newhaven near Edinburgh. The name is found in Fife so early as 1275 when John ffloker is mentioned (RD., 320). Dominus Patricius dictus Floker was appointed master and guardian of the Hospital of Polmade (Balmadie) juxta Ruglen, 1316 (REG., p. 223). Michael Fluker was custumar of Inverkethyn, 1359 (ER., I, p. 603), and another Michael Flukar was vicar of the church of Kirkcaldy in 1448 (RD., p. 306). David Flucare held land in Edinburgh, 1486 (RMS., II, 1655), Johannes Flewcare, witness in Avondale, 1503 (Simon, 63), and Marcus Flukar was warden of the Friary of Inverkeithing, 1564 (ALHT., XI, p. 314). Katherine Fluccer was spouse of a burgess of Dundee, 1634 (Brechin), and the Nethergate of that burgh was formerly known as the Fluckergate (Flukargait, 1443). Andrew Fluiker was elder in Dysart, 1641 (PRK., p. 209), and Ninian Flooker appears in St. Andrews, 1680 (PSAS., LIV, p. 236). Flukair 1584, Fluekart 1679.
