FOULFORD: From the old lands of Fulford or Foulfourde "nunc de Woodhouselie vocata" (1686, Retours, Edinburgh, 1301). James de Foulfourd who made a gift to the altar of St. James in the paroch kirk of Edinburgh in the reign of Robert III (RMS., I, App. II, 1882) is probably James de Fulford, burgess of Edinburgh, 1381 (Egidii, p. 22). The tenement of quondam James de Foulfurde in Edinburgh is mentioned in 1428 (RMS., II, 116), James of Foulfurd was factor to the earl of Orkney, 1444 (CRA., p. 13), John Fulford was mason to the abbot of Cupar-Angus Abbey c. 1500 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 310), and another John Forlfurd was prior of the Friars Carmelites in Aberdeen, 1558 (ER., XIX, p. 41).
