Robert Freborn or Frebernm made a gift of two camcates to the Abbey of Neubotle c. 1150 (Neubotle, 3), and p. 1165 he witnessed the grant by Serlo, clericus regis, to the Abbey of Kelso (Kelso, 216). About 1153 Radulf Frebern had a grant from Malcolm IV 'terranim de Rossive et Dunduf' (SCM., V, p. 241). Between 1189—99 Robert de London granted Roger Frebern a charter of Aberdouer, Colestun, Balemacmol and Muntequin (ibid., p. 243). About the same date Walter Frebern witnessed a charter by Hugh, cancellarius regis, to the Abbey of Arnbroath (RAA., I, 80), and c. 1200 he witnessed a charter by Henry de Graham (Neubotle, 8), and Walter Frebern witnessed a charter by the same Graham to the Abbey of Newbattle (ibid., 7). Robert, son of Robert Frebom, witnessed a charter of the third part of Lambertun c. 1190—1200 (BNCH., XVI, p. 332; Home, 224). Roger, son of Robert Frebern, witnessed a charter by David son of Tructe in favor of Kelso Abbey c. 1200 (Kelso, 268), and Robert Frebern appears as witness in a charter by Philip de Valoniis (Melros, 140). James Frebarne, witness in Glasgow, 1550 (Protocols, I). John Freeburn in Polkem, parish of Livingstone, 1702 (Lanark CR.), anti Charles Freebain was tacksman of Persabus, Islay, 1780 (Isles).
