FREEVILLE: Richard de Friuille witnessed the gift by William the Lion of the church of Hautwysille in Tyndal to the monastery of Arnbroath c. 1178—80 (RAA., I, p. 27), and about the same period he granted the carucate of Balekelefan to the same house (ibid., p. 62). Between 1219 and 1237 Henry de Freville was witness to a charter by John, earl of Huntington to Norman, son of Malcolm of the lands of Lesslyn, etc. (CAB., p. 548.) From Freville between Sante Mere Eglise and Valognes, Normandy. It was the name of a family celebrated both in that duchy and in England (Lower).
