FRESSELEY: Galfridus de fferseley witnessed confirmation of the gift of the lands of Prendergest to Coldingham Priory in the reign of Alexander II (Raine, 73). William de Fresseleye del counte de Fyfe rendered homage 1296. His seal shows an eight-leaved flower, S' Will' Fresele (Bain, II, p. 204,553). Geoffry de Fresseley, an adherent of Balliol, also rendered homage in same year. His lands in Friselay seized at the same time were restored to him in 1304 (ibid., p. 385,415). Henry de Freslay, dominus de Fourgy, 1295 (Cambus , 5) is doubtless the Henry de Fresseleye of Perthshire who rendered homage in 1296, and served as juror at Perth in 1305 (Bain, II, p. 202,456). He may be the Henricus de Frisshele from whom the English purchased a horse in 1312 (Bain, III, p. 428). Henry de Freslay witnessed the homage of Duncan, twelfth earl of Fife to the abbot of Dunfermline, 1316 (RD., 349), and Mariorie de ffreslay quondam relict of dominus Willelmus de ffresley is mentioned in 1337 (Scon, p. 123). A family named Friseleye or Fressingleye, a surname which has entirely disappeared, were owners of Duddingston near Edinburgh in the fourteenth century. The name is also spelled Freshelee and Freshelegh, and the lands appear to have been in Yorkshire.
