The wood knot was used in children's games and was used as a magical amulet, worn on a necklace. It represents stoicism and resilience, because the knot is the hardest part of the wood, which remains even after the tree rots away. Spasoje, the progenitor of the family, had no children, so, according to an old folk tale, a Gypsy woman gave him a string necklace with a lot of wood knots, which has 'removed the curse'. After that, Spasoje has had numerous children and descendants.
