From Where Does The Surname Originate? meaning and history

FUDAS: Of local origin from the old lands of Fudass (1491, REA., I, p. 326) which appear to have been near Muir of Rhynie, Aberdeenshire. Lancelot Foudas witnessed a precept of sasine in favor of James Innes of 'yat ilk,' 1468 (Seals Supp., 380; Macdonald, 981). Sir William Fudes, a cleric, was presented to the sacristy of the church of St. Duthace of Tane, 1507 (RMS., II), and in 1516 Stephen Fudis appears as bergess of that town (Calendar of Fearn). James Fudas was fined for being absent from the wapinshaw, 1626 (SCM., V, p. 223).
