From the occupation of 'furbisher' or 'polisher' of armor, in Latin documents translated eruginator. Adam le Furbeur witnessed a grant by Thomas, son of Andrew de Kyrconeuel to Holmcoltran, c, 1280—90 (Holm Cultram, p. 48). Richard le Forblour (or Furblur), burgess of Roxburgh, took the oath of fealty to England, 1296 (Bain, II, 820 and p. 197). Likewise did Alisaundre Furbur of Roxburghshire (ibid., p. 211), and Richard le Furbour of the same county. The seal of the latter is a beautiful gem, a figure with rod in left hand, holding a bunch of grapes in right, and S' Ricardi de ebvr (ibid., p. 199,532). Between 1327 and 1329 there are several entries of payments to Stephen dictus Fourbour or Forbour (ER., I, p. 80, 98,211, 244), and in 1343 he rendered to Exchequer the account of the provost of Dundee (ibid p. 526). In 1344 he appears again as burgess of Dundee (HP., II, p. 134). In 1329 there is entry of a payment of £6.13.4 to William Fourbour in aid of his marriage (ER., I, p. 214). Stephanus Fourbour "tunc maiore de Berwyco" was a charter witness, 1332 (BNCH., XVI, p. 327). Patrick Furbur witnessed a concession in favor of the monastery of Scon, c. 1340 (Scon, 167), John Eruginator was burgess of Edinburgh, 1344 (Egidii, p. 3), and Thomas Eruginator or Ruoiginator who was bailie of Stirling, 1371—2, 1385 (ER., II, p. 387; III, p. 140), may have been Thomas Rubiginator who was one of the burgesses of Stirling who attacked the cruives and fishings of the abbot and convent of Cambuskenneth, 1366 (Cambus., 55). Robert Fourbour was charged with breaking parole in 1358 (Bain, IV, 25).
