This name, which was referred to in More Irish Families, (p. 250), occurs as O'Furfuye of Tullaghoge Co. Tyrone in 1602, as O'Fuorphy in the Armagh hearth money rolls (1664) and as Forfee in those of Co. Antrim (1669). Perhaps an earlier form was that borne by Patrick O'Fewrthy, who in 1428 incurred excommunication at Armagh for unrepentant injury to the property of the Abbey of Knock, Co. Louth.
