From fors, vors, for ford, a way. There is a place called Furze Park in Lansalloes.
Geoffry and Roger Farsi of Normandy 1198 (Magni Rotuli Scaccarii Normanniae). The name also occurs as Forcy and Falsy (Mem. Soc. Ant. Norm. v.). Geoffry Farsi is mentioned at the siege of Dol 1173.
From the French, Fourez (?); a personal name; in the Domesday Book, Fursa. Forz in Roll of Battell Abbey.
Furse: is the De Forz in some copies of the Battle Abbey Roll, and it occurs in Domesday as Fursa; but it is doubtful if it be a Norman name, and not Saxon. A tenant of one of my farms bore this appellation.
The name of Furse or Furze is taken from hamlets in the county. In the reign of Richard I. a family of this name owned the Furse estate in the parish of Spreyton (L.). A gentle family of Furse, now extinct, resided in Dean Prior in the 16th and 17th centuries (W. A.).
