VIII, 16), meaning 'man of El,' Frank Gabriel and Edward Gabriel from Turriff served in the first Great War (Turriff). As a forename we have Gabriel Gymmill in Edinburgh, 1599 (Edinb. Marr.). David Gabriel, a prominent citizen in Aberdeen, died in December, 1939. I have read somewhere that the family of Gabriel of Aberdeen is descended from a Gabriel Grant, but no such person appears in Sir William Fraser's Chiefs of Grant.
