The Galafassi surname comes from the north of Italy, from the region of Mantova.

"Galafassi" viene da "Calafataro", l'antico mestiere dei nostri antenati che abitavano sulle rive del Po."Galafassi" comes from "Calafatore", the ancient craft of our ancestors who lived on the banks of the Po.

"Galafassi" vem de "Calafatore" a antiga profissao de nossos ancestrais, construtores de grandes embarcaçoes na regiao de Mantova.

Italian immigrants went by ship to Brazil (Sao Paulo city and close countryside and to the South region - Rio Grande do Sul).

The Galafassi family founded a city in the state of Parana, Brazil called Cascavel, nowadays it is one of the biggest cities of the state.

They have also founded/started the Caravaggio Church in the city of Farroupilha in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. This church is today one of the 3 most well known and a place for peregrination. The most visited one in the south region of Brazil for the Catholic believers.

Every year in September, the Brazilian descendants of this big Italian family meet to celebrate their last names in a big party that takes place in a different city every time (normally in the south region). Last party was the 7th, and you could find more then 400 Galafassi.

We, the Galafassi, are all really proud of our Italian origins.
