User-submitted Reference

Gandawa is a surname of the Mbeva clan in Western Zimbabwe. The Gandawas are of Semitic origin who are called Macheka because of their Kosher practices, macheka means those who don't eat what others have slaughtered. They are also know as Mhizha or the skilled people. They are closely related to Chigumburas and people in Hurungwe also refer to them as Magumbura. Some Gandawas still have Semitic resemblances to date. Not known DNA sequencing has been done to this group. They are also related to the VaRemba and Hwesa people of Nyanga. A story is shared of Gandawa who had supernatural powers during the raids by VaDzviti, the local chiefs like Kazangarare would ask for his help, he would for example cloud the place with mist blinding the enemies and he alone would slaughter all the Vadzviti. Most Gova people would run away from their villages and escape to the other side of Zambezi, but thanks to Gandawa and his kinsmen who would save the Gova people.
