Among the benefactors of Conishead Priory in the 12th century was one 'Roger de Cayres, (who) gave two acres and three roods of land ... and all his land in Marie-riding, a toft and messuage, which Gerbot once held, in Haverbrec' (West's Ant. of Furness).
