In the 13th century it occurred as Garlec in Cambridgeshire and as Garlek in Norfolk (H. R.). Nicholas Garlick, a Roman Catholic priest of Dinting, Derbyshire, suffered martyrdom for his religion at Derby in 1588 (Wood's "Eyam.").
