GARRUCHEL: From a place of the name in Dumbartonshire, now extinct. Michael de Caruchell witnessed a confirmation charter by Malcolm, fourth earl of Lennox, 1274 (Levenax, p. 86). The name of Michael Gartefieith who appears as witness in a charter by Gillemichell filius Edolf to his son, Malcolm (ibid., p. 84) is evidently a miscopying of the name. Eugene de Garchellis, juror on inquest On the lands of Thomas de Cremennane. The territorial designation was apparently dropped for the patronymic Mackesson, which see.
