Of local origin, probably from Garvock in the parish of the same name in Kincardineshire. There is, however, another Garvock in Perthshire (Retours). Laurence de Garuok, one of those appointed to treat for the ransom of David II in 1357 (CDE., 6), is probably Laurence Garvock who was provost of Aberdeen in 1305—67. A charter of sale by Malise de Garvok in 1403 is in record (Friars, p. 24). George Garvoch was portioner of Smiddyhill in 1739 (Dunkeld), William Garvock in Dykeside of Towie appears in 1742 (Aberdeen CR.), and another William Garvock was a member of the Huntly Company of Volunteers in 1798 (Will, p. 19).
