There are two main branches of the Gashi tribe: Gashi (Stone Gashi) and White Gashi (Alb. Gashi i Bardhë or Wood Gashi).The White Gashi, which is the bigger branch of the tribe, was originally called Bardhi (The White).
It is thought that Bardhi was an independent tribe that joined with the smaller tribe of Gashi to form one bigger tribe/clan. This is thought to have happened in the late Middle Ages.
