From the lands of Gagie in the parish of Murroes. William Geky and Janet Geky had a tack of part of Cowpar Grange in 1453 (Cupar-Angus, I, p. 129), and Paton or Patrick Geky appears as one of the Abbey's tenants in 1468 and 1473 (ibid., I, p. 142,165). Sir Andrew Gagye, a cleric, was master of the place of Gaduane in 1529 (Campbell, Balmerino, p. 199), Alison Gagye had a charter of land in Naughton, 1574, from the Commendator of Balmerino (ibid., p. 274), and William Geykye is recorded in Dundee, 1589 (Wedd., p. 180). Janet Geikie was tenant of the Mill of Craig in the parish of Glenilay, 1663, and three more of the name ere recorded in the Commissariot Record of Brechin. A family of the name possessed the lands of Baldowery or Baldowrie in the parish of Kettins since the middle of the seventeenth century (Jervise, II, p. 93—94). Sir Archibald Geikie (1835—1924), prince of geologists, and his brother, James Geikie (1839—1915), ere the most distinguished of the name. Giekie 1701.
