GERMISTON: From the lands of Germiston in the parish of Stenness, Orkney. Hucheoun Gaimistath was a witness to the validity of purchases by Earl William in 1503 (REO., p. 416), John Germiston married a daughter of Gibbon Ireland of Ireland, Orkney, before 1573 (Clouston), Jhone Garmastoun and his wife appear in Kirkwall, 1574 (OSR., I, p. 267), and Andrew Germestoun is recorded in Harray in 1640 (MCM., II, p. 211). The surname has now quite disappeared from Orkney (Clouston). Garmiston 1576.
