Thomas Galfagy (error for Galhagy) and Thomas de Gelghagi, both of Ayrshire, rendered homage, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 199,205). Johannes de Galhagy, juror in Moray, 1398 (REM., p. 212). Thomas Gilhagy who witnessed a sasine of the lands of Mernys and Netherpollok, 1454 (Pollok, I, p. 176) may be Schir Thomas de Gilhagi who was vicar of Trailflat in 1466 (Edgar, p. 227). Sasine was given to James Gilhage in Glasgow, 1552 (Protocols, I), and John Gilhagie was admitted burgess freeman there, 1583 (Burgesses). Ringand Gilhagie, servant of Sir John Maxwell of Pollok, 1615 (Pollok, II, p. 192), Issobell Gilhagie was heir portioner of Ninian Gilhagie, merchant burgess of Glasgow, 1641 (Inquis., 2559), and John Gilhagie, merchant in Dumfries, 1725 (Dumfries). John Galt wrote an historical romance named Ringan Gilhaize (1823).
