GLENCAIRNIE: From the old lands of Glencairnie in Moray. Gilbert de Glencarny witnessed a charter by Malise, earl of Strathern, between 1258 and 1271 (LIM., p. xxxiii). About 1278 as Sir Gilbert de Glenchernie (miswritten Glencheruie) he witnessed a charter by Malcolm de Moravia to his son (REM., p. 461), and between 1281—98 he granted a charter to Duncan of Feryndrawcht of the east davoch of the land of Conynges (Grant, III, p. 7). Sir Gilbert de Glynkerny of the county of Elgin rendered homage for his lands in 1296 (Bain, II, 808 and p. 211). Malmore de Glencharny had a charter of land in Badenoch viz. Dalnafert and Kinrorayth in 1338 (SCM., IV, p. 125), and in 1362 Gilbert de Glencharny got a charter from David 11 of the barony of Glencharny in the sheriffdom of Invernes and county of Moray (RMS., I, 116). The family retained Glencairnie till 1391 when they exchanged it for Fochabers (Grant, III). Glenkerni 1307, Glenkerny 1296, Glymcerny 1296.
