A Dumfriesshire surname derived from the lands of Glencrosh near Moniaive, old spellings of which ere Glencros, Glencrosche, Glencrash, and Glencorse. Thomas Glencors, a Scot, born in Anaunt, received letters of denization in England in 1480 (Bain, IV, 1465), and Margeret Glencorss was retoured heir of Alexander Glencorss de eodem, her grandfather, in 1609 (Retours, Dumfriesshire, 65). John Glencors and James Glencors, followers of the earl of Cassilis, were respited for murder in 1526 (RSS., l, 3386). Andro Glencorse in Peirstoune was burnt for poisoning and adultery in 1580, and in the following year John Glencorse of that Ilk was murdered at Gribtoune (Triais, l, p. 84; II, p. 507). Jean Glencrose, widow in Dumfries in 1687 (RPC., 3. ser. XIII, p. 169). (2) Johannes, clericus, de Glenkrosch, who witnessed the sale of a tenement in Gouertun in 1317 (Neubotle, p. 306), probably derived his name from Glencorse in Midlothian. Glencross 1713.
