For Gobaud. “Baldwin Wac granted to Robert Fitz Gubold, temp. Henry I., one fee, held of the Barony of Brunne, Lincoln (Lib. Niger): from whom descended John Gobaud, thirteenth century, who held of the same barony (Testa de Nevill). Robert Goebald occurs in 1158 (Rot Pip.), and Henry Gobaud in Devon (Testa).”—The Norman People. Guy Gobaud, Gubaut, or Gubout, and Galfrid Gubaut occur in Lincolnshire temp. Ed. I.; and John Gubaud both in that county and Huntingdonshire. - Rotuli Hundredorum. Probably the same John who was one of the Conservators of the peace for Lincolnshire in 1307. Sir John Gobaud was summoned from Warwick to the great Council held at Westminster in 1324; and married Annabel, daughter and heiress of Simon Basset of Sapcote in Leicestershire. - Dugdalds Wanuickshire. Their son and heir was again John. William Gumbaud, or Gobaud, held Thome juxta Hedon in Holderness (Kirkby's Inquest), and died 33 Ed. I., leaving as his heirs his sisters, Lora de Fletwyth, Margaret de Hollebeck, and two others, Christiana and Joanna, both of them nuns. Lora re-married Thomas de Newmarch (Poulson's Holderness), who was certified joint Lord of “Thornegombaud” with Laurence de Hollebeck and Edward Wasteneys in 1316.
