From Gollan in Kinross-shire. William de Golin is witness in Fife c. 1216—24 (LAC., 70), and William Gollan was bailie of Linlithgow, 1359 (ER., I, p. 619). John Gollane was "husband' in vill of Tullibothy, 1437 (SCM., V, p. 261), and William Gollan, a charter witness in Inverness, 1536 (Laing, 403). John Gollane was one of the bergesses of Stirling who attacked the cruives and fishings of the abbot and convent of Cambuskenneth, 1366 (Cambus., 55). Gilbert Gollan, burgess of Inverness, 1556 (Rec. Inv., I, p. 4) may be Gilbert Gollan who served on an inquest there in 1591 (OPS., II, p. 670). Alexander Gollane was bailie of Rosmarkie, 1568 (ibid., p. 544), Mungo Gollan and Robert Gollan were bailies there, 1600, and John Golland was 'custumer and uptacker of the toll pennie' in Inverness, 1603 (Rec. Inv., II, p. 14, 15). George Gollon was a writer in Dundee, 1737 (Brechin), and John Gollan was a Jacobite prisoner in 1746. The name was liable to be confused in record with Gullane, which see.
