Most probably from Gosford in the parish of Aberlady, East Lothian. Master William de Goseford, parson of Castlemilke, who rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 212) is probably the William de Goseford who was charged with holding certain churches in Scotland and England without papal dispensation in 1309 (Pap. Lett., II, p. 53). In 1359 we have record of a remission of double custom to William de Gosseford (ER., I, p. 607), and in the same year a payment to him as William de Gosford (ibid., p. 608).
