A curious conjunction of names is found in the first of the following entries:

'Thomas Goose was executed at Garstang, Lancashire, Feb. 14, 1716, for joining the Scotch insurgents in 1715': Baines' Lancashire.

Although Wildgoose still exists, our Gooses (I may not say Geese) have now stuck to Goss as a preferable form.

(2) Bapt. 'the son of Goce,' whence diminutive Gocelin or Josselin; v. Goose (a) and Goslin. Although the diminutive has quite overshadowed the root-name, it was decidedly popular in its day.
