From Grahamslaw in the parish of Eckford, Roxburghshire. John de Grymeslawe of the county of Roxburgh, who rendered homage in 1296 (Bain, II, p. 199), appears to be the first of the name in record. John of Grymslawe, juror on inquisition at Roxburgh, 1361 (Bain, IV, 61). Thomas Grymislaw was juror on an inquest at Jedburgh in 1464 (Cavers, p. 728), may be the Thomas Grymsley, a Scot, who had letters of denization in England, 1480 (Bain, IV, 1465). Adam Grahamslaw of Newton, one of the lairds of Roxburghshire who submitted to the king's will at Jedburgh in 1530, may be the Adam Grameislaw who appears as a witness in Glasgow in 1550 (Protocols, I). William Grahamslaw, servitor to my lord Boyd, was admitted burgess of Glasgow in 1576 (Burgesses). Walter Gremslae in Nether Stitchill is in record in 1677 (Stitchill, p. 80). Graimslaw 1662, Gramislaw 1684, Grymyslaw 1493, Grymslowe 1547.
