GRANTULLY: Perhaps from the lands of Grantully in the parish of Dull, Perthshire. Robert de Grantell witnessed a confirmation charter by Alexander II at Edinbergh in 1224 (Neubotle, 122). Adam de Querenteley was presented to the church of Colbaynnston (Covington), Lanarkshire, in 1262 (Bain, I, 2676). Ellen de Queranteley who swore fealty to Edward I of England in 1296 (Palgrave, Illustrations, p. 300) is doubtless the Ellen de Querandey to whom Robert I gave the lands of Bellitstan and Grunley in the forest of Maldisley in excambion (RMS., I, 76).
