This surname is derived from the name of an ancestor. A variant of Grayson, which see. This curious but natural corruption is found in Yorkshire, one of the great homes of Grayson. It stands for Grayshon, the h being intrusive, as in Townshend for Townsend, Hodshon for Hodgson, &c.
