It is to be met with in a variety of forms. “Le Seigneur de Grissey” is entered among the Conquérants d'Angleterre in Tailleur’s Norman Chronicle; and a Richard de Grisey occurs about 1180 in the Exchequer Rolls of the Duchy. “Magistro Alano de Greycy,” in the same century, witnesses a deed of Henry Pudsey, bastard son of the Prince-Bishop of Durham; and Roger de Gruszi is found in London and Middlesex 1189-90 (Rot. Pip.). Gilbert de Gressy, in the time of Henry III., was a benefactor of the Templars (Mon. Angl.). Hamo de Gruscy, in the following reign, sold some land to the Black Friars of York. - Yorkshire Archæologia, vol. vi. p. 399.
