About the year 1180 Symon de Grubbeheued witnessed a charter "super totum halech de territorio de Pronewessete" (now Primside) by Galfridus Ridel (Kelso, 368), and c. 1220 he, or perhaps a succeeding Symon, witnessed another charter of land in the territory of Molle (ibid., 169). About 1181 Huctred de Grubbeheued and Symon, his son and heir, gave the Abbey of Melrose some land in Grubbeheued, called Halkale in Elstaneshaleche (Melros, p. 110). Huctred of Grubheued had a convention with the monks of Melrose between 1203 and 1214 (Metros, p. 110,111). Simon de Grubbeheved, knight of Scotland, was one of twelve Scottish knights appointed to meet a similar number of English knights to consider the working of the laws and customs of the marches of the two kingdoms in 1249 (Bain, I, 1749). In 1250 and in 1255 John de Grubheued witnessed charters of grazing lands in the district of Molle (Kelso, 149,160), and between 1253 and 1280 as John de Grubeshewed he witnessed a charter by Nicolas Corbet in favor of an hospital in Northumberland (Laing, 9). There appears to be no further record of this family. See Grub.
