Alexander Gulde rendered to Exchequer the accounts of the bailies of Stirling, 1421 and 1425 (ER., IV, p. 370,398), Thomas Gulde and William Gulid, 'husbandis,' charter witnesses, 1481 (Panmure, II, 252), and Henry Guld is mentioned in a Scone document of 1491 (Scon, p. 198). Kath. Guld spouse of Alexander Boys of Panbryd, 1502 (RAA , II, 427), Thomas Guld, prebendary of Collegiate Church of Holy Trinity, Edinburgh, 1512 (Soltre, p. 167), may be Thomas Gulde, monk of Newbattle, 1521 (Neubotle, p. 284), and William Gwill was slain in Aberdeen, 1584 (SCM., II, p. 57). Nineteen persons of the name are recorded in the Commissariot Record of Dunblane in seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Gwild 1581. Probably Goold is a variant. Macbain (v, p. 46) says the name is a curtailed form of guilder, i.e. member of & guild, but.
