This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Gingdale,' some spot in Wiltshire or Gloucestershire. I have not identified the place, but Gingell is thus originated. The surname is still closely connected with the district in which it arose. As Charles Dickens got Pickwick from the neighbourhood of Bath, it is possible that Alfred Jingle came from the same quarter.
