There's a tribe that lives near the Libyan city of Misurata called Al Haddad, which means 'the blacksmith'. Old residents of Misurata claim that this is a Jewish tribe, but I couldn't find any official information on this tribe. I'm from a Muslim family and my original last name from six generations ago is Al Haddad, but for some reason I don't know, we have taken the name of my fourth grand father and we don't use the original surname anymore. I don't know of any other Muslim families that have this surname. I only know of Christian and Jewish families. So I wonder if my ancestors converted to Islam and changed the last name for that reason. My family also don't look like Arabs. We have a fair complexion, freckles and many in the family have large noses, which also leads me to think that we might have Jewish origins.
