Probably from Haydock in Lancashire, England, of which Haddock is the local pronunciation. There is, however, a Haddockstone (1626 Haddockstane), near Johnstone, Renfrewshire, with which the name may be connected. Ninane Haddok was rentallit "in xij schilling VI. penny land in Westir Daldowye," 1553 (Riddel, The Salt-foot controversy, p. 61). Patronymica Britannica (1860) by Mark Antony Lower

This name has been considered the same as the Saxon Hadeca and Hadiko; probable diminutives of Chad, Head, Anglo-Saxon Hedda, and the Old German names Haddo, Hadow, Chatto. I take it to be corrupted from Eadwig; from Anglo-Saxon ead-wig, fortunate in war, or ead-wiga, prosperous warrior. Hence probably the name Headache.
