Probably from Haydock in Lancashire, England, of which Haddock is the local pronunciation. There is, however, a Haddockstone (1626 Haddockstane), near Johnstone, Renfrewshire, with which the name may be connected. Ninane Haddok was rentallit "in xij schilling VI. penny land in Westir Daldowye," 1553 (Riddel, The Salt-foot controversy, p. 61). Janet Haddock in Cauldstreme, parish of Carluke, 1621, and two more of the name (Lanark CR.).
For Haydock, q.v.
An English toponymic now found in Co. Armagh. From 1690 to 1800 the family was prominent in Kilkenny
Not so likely from the fish as from some place terminating in ock.
This name has been considered the same as the Saxon Hadeca and Hadiko; probable diminutives of Chad, Head, Anglo-Saxon Hedda, and the Old German names Haddo, Hadow, Chatto. I take it to be corrupted from Eadwig; from Anglo-Saxon ead-wig, fortunate in war, or ead-wiga, prosperous warrior. Hence probably the name Headache.
