Tamazigh is the second most spoken language in northern Africa, with many dialects (Kabyle, Chawi, Tuareg, Chelhi etc.). Hamdiken is the composed of the words, Hmed, a contraction of the name Ahmed and ikken or ichen, which means 'twin'. When one of the Nemouchi tribes decided to change their name, they chose their first grandfather's name, 'Hmed or Ahmed and since he had a twin brother, Mohammed they chose "Hmed ikken" or "Hmed ichen". The French colonialization faced a problem while writing the name "Hmed ikken", so they changed in its phonetic pronunciation making it easier to pronounce. It became Hamedikenand later Hamdiken.
