(Duchesne gives it Hauley, and Leland, Haulley) This family took its name from La Haulle, in Normandy. Warm de Haulla is mentioned in Somerset, 1154, and 1165 he held a barony of eight fees in Devon (Lib. Nig.). De Aulo or De Halla held St.Lawrence, Stenbury and Yavesland in the Isle of Wight about the same time: several of the name occur. - Worsley's Isle of Wight. “The family of De Aulâ, called also Durandesthorp or Duranthorpe, are described as lords of Donesthorpe during the twelfth, thirteenth, and fourteenth centuries. It is probable they held under the Gresley family.”—Lyson's Derby. In Worcestershire the name also occurs; and the arms are given by Nash: Gules, five Lioncels rampant in cross Or.
