This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Heysham,' a parish on the coast of Morecambe Bay, Lancashire (Hessam in Domesday).
'A branch of the Hessams, or Heyshams, retained the local appellation long after the family had ceased to have any connexion with the parish (Heysham). William and Robert Heysham were born in Lancaster, and, going to London, became eminent merchants there, and both served in several parliaments in the reigns of Queen Anne and George I': Baines' Lancashire.
