W. dictus Hyrd was actomatus (attorney) of Bernard, abbot of Aberbrothoc in 1328 (RAA., I, p. 318). Willie Bryand was 'hyrd' in Prestwick, 1527 (Prestwick, p. 52). John Hird was a tenant of the Douglas in Louchurde in 1376 (RHM., I, p. xlvii; a, p. 16), William Hirde was witness in Cupar in 1511 (Laing, 279,280), Henry Hird had precept of sasine of two ninth parts of the lands of Arlarie in 1605 (RD., p. 502), and Walter Hird, doctor of medicine in Renes in Britanny in Francia was retoured heir of William Hira, his father, in rents of lands in the barony of East Weymis in 1626 (Retours, Fife, 370).
