Symon Hirdeman was received to the English king's grace in 1321 (Bain, III, 724). James Hireman was parishioner of Kinkell, 1473 (Inverurie, p. 122), "Sir" Alexander Hyrdman was chaplain in the diocese of Dumblane in 1479 (SBR., p. 2651, and "Schir" John Hiidman was a notary public at Slains in 1508 (SCM., II, p. 265). William Hyrdman was hired apprentice at Cupar-Angus Abbey, 1485 (Cupar-Angus I, p. 307). (2) the man who tended a herd, especially cattle.
