Robert de Hildyard, Yorkshire, ibid.

These four entries represent, no doubt, the same individual.
(a) Bapt. 'the son of Hildegard' or 'Hildeward'; v. Hild. Also v. Yonge, ii. 235. 'Hildyard, formerly Hildheard, an ancient personal name. The family are said to have sprung from Robert Hildheard, of Normanby, Yorkshire, in the year 1109.' So says Lower, quoting Burke's Landed Gentry. This family, however, as shown above, is of local origin. But I have found several entries that settle the point that in some cases these names are of baptismal origin.
Julian Hildegar, Huntingdonshire, 1273. Hundred Rolls.
Hildiardos Bel. Placitorum in domo capitulari Westmonasteriensi.
Hilward de Broughton, 1400: West, Antiquities of Furness.
