Son of Hild, an Old English personal name. Robert Hildson witnessed a charter of the barony of Cultir in Lanarkshire, 1367 (RMS., I, 270). John Hyldsone or Hildsone was tenant of the earl of Douglas in the barony of Kylbouho (Kilbucho) in 1376 (RHM., I, p. xlvii; II, p. 16). James Hillson in Whinkerstanes, 1665, and Marion Hilston in Lidgertwood, 1668 (Lauder).
