A German and Austrian surname, meaning 'hut worker', after a variant of Huttler. The father of politician Adolf Hitler (Alois) was born with the surname 'Schiklgruber', and in 1876 he legally changed it to Hitler (his grandma's hubby was surnamed Hiedler). It virtually ended in 1945 because of reminding war, since Adolf Hitler started WW2 in Germany. As of the mid 2020s, the surname still exists but even more rarely than the past centuries. And it doesn't exist at all in countries like Germany and Austria. It's mostly beared in Nigeria, Bangladesh, Iraq, Tanzania and India.
