HOGSYARD: All the early references confine this name to Glasgow. George Hogisyarde, witness in Glasgow 1551 and 1554 (Protocols, I). In the Protocols the name also appears as Hogisyairde (1556) and Hogezaird (1568), and in the index all the forms are grouped under Hodgart. William Hoggiszaird was heir of John Hoggiszaird, calcearius, burgess of Glasgow, 1639 (Inquis., 2419), Mr. Hendrie Hogsyard, bursar of theollogie in Glasgow, 1654 (RUG., III, p. 578), and Robert Hogsyard in Quarreltoun, 1759 (Kilbarchan). William Hogiszearde, burgess freeman of Glasgow, 1596 (Burgesses), and John Hogard (d. 1640) was buried in Fishwick churchyard, parish of Hutton. Annabell Hogsyaird, 1694, reappears in 1707 as Anable Hodge (Corsehill, p. 187,222). Hoggisyaird 1626, Hoggisyard 1617.
