This surname is derived from a geographical locality. 'of Holbrook.' (1) A parish in Suffolk, six miles from Ipswich; (a) a parish in Derbyshire, five miles from Derby. Both places seem to have given rise to a surname. Evidently there is a locality called Holbrook in the West country. Holbrook has ramified very strongly in the Puritan settlements of America.
