HOLCOTE: From some place in England. There were lands named Holcote in Northamptonshire held by David I (Moore, Lands, p. 36), Guppy (p. 74) mentions an ancient family of Holcott of Buckland Berkshire, "which seems to have left but few descendants at the present day." Wautier de Holcote of Roxburghshire rendered homage, 1296 (Bain, II, p. 199). Robert Holkat was a monk of Culross in the middle of the sixteenth century (PSAS., LX, p. 93). William Alket, burgess of Aberdeen, 1275 (Fraser, p. 11) may represent the same name.
