"in old times when mead or metheglin was a favourite beverage, and when sugar was unknown in England, the propagation of bees and the production of honey furnished employment for many persons ' (Lower). "We all belong to Fife" has long been a phrase used by the bearers of the name Honeyman in Scotland. They appear all to hail from between Falkland and St. Andrews, although the name is also met with in the district around Ayr. The Orkney family of Honeyman is descended from Bishop Honeyman who married Mary Stewart, heiress of Graemsey.
